Reiki School of Denver
An understanding of the form and lineage of Usui Shiki Ryoho allows for a deeper
awareness of the practice.
Reiki originated with Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800's. He practiced and taught
Reiki for many years. The lineage then passed to his successor Dr. Chujiro Hayashi
who opened the first Reiki Clinic in Tokyo. His successor was Mrs.Hawayo Takata.
Mrs.Takata was the first person to practice and teach Reiki outside of Japan. The
current lineage holder is Mrs.Takata's granddaughter, Phyllis Lei Furumoto. Phyllis
and the other Masters initiated by Mrs. Takata formed the Reiki Alliance
International in order to bring together the Reiki community and honor the practice
of Reiki as it had been entrusted to them.
